Commercial Counsellor and Senior Trade Commissioner

Based at the Canadian Embassy in Cairo, Jasmine Wahhab is Canada’s Commercial Counsellor for Egypt and Lebanon.
Prior to joining the Embassy, Jasmine held several positions within Global Affairs Canada, including Deputy Director, Trade Sectors Bureau, where she was responsible for the forestry, mining, and oil & gas sectors; Senior Advisor in the Softwood Lumber Division; and Legal Counsel, Trade Law Bureau, where she represented Canada in NAFTA Chapter 11 proceedings and acted as lead counsel in investment treaty negotiations. While at the Permanent Mission of Canada to the United Nations, Jasmine also represented Canada on the UN General Assembly’s Sixth Committee (Legal).
Jasmine began her career as a litigation associate with Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP and clerked for the International Court of Justice in The Hague and for the Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa. Trained in both civil and common law, Jasmine holds law degrees from McGill (BCL-LLB), Cambridge (LLM), and Stanford (JSM).
